Englewood sits just south of Denver and offers something many buyers are looking for: an established, walkable city with older homes, a light rail station and quick access to downtown, without Denver city prices on every street. Here’s a look at living in Englewood, Colorado.
Location and getting around
Englewood is in western Arapahoe County, directly south of Denver, with a population of about 33,700 (2020 census). Broadway and Hampden Avenue are the main corridors, and U.S. 285 and Santa Fe Drive connect you quickly to the rest of the metro. The Englewood light rail station on RTD’s D Line at CityCenter makes commuting to downtown Denver simple without a car.
Neighborhoods and homes
Much of Englewood was built in the early and mid-20th century, so you’ll find bungalows, brick ranches and cottages on tree-lined streets, along with newer townhomes and infill homes. The northwest part of the city is the oldest and includes downtown along South Broadway, with local restaurants, coffee shops and antique stores. The southeast is mostly quiet residential streets.
Older homes often have charm and great locations, but plan your inspection carefully: sewer line scopes, electrical updates and foundation checks are worth it on homes of this age.
Jobs and healthcare
Englewood is home to Swedish Medical Center and Craig Hospital, a nationally recognized rehabilitation hospital. The medical district is one of the city’s largest employers, and living nearby is a major draw for healthcare workers.
Parks and recreation
Belleview Park is Englewood’s largest park, with Pirates Cove family aquatic center nearby. The South Platte River trail runs along the city’s western edge for biking and walking.
Schools
Most of Englewood is served by Englewood Public Schools, with small areas in Littleton Public Schools or Sheridan. Always confirm the schools for a specific address.
